End-of-Life Care

Ematai is committed to creating positive discourse between the Jewish community and healthcare providers regarding healthcare dilemmas relating to end-of-life care.

The first step is becoming aware of the various religious sensitives regarding EOL care and Jewish bioethics.  We refer you to two medical articles, attached here, that provide important background information.

Ematai is committed to providing healthcare providers with educational information regarding Jewish perspectives on these questions as well as realtime consultation regarding specific cases.  This includes:

  • Dilemmas of intubation and extubation
  • DNIs and DNRs
  • ANH
  • Pain medication at the end of life
  • Hospice referrals
  • Handling of the body

For two excellent medical journal articles explaining some of the sensitivities in treating Jewish patients, please see the sidebar.
