Letter to NY State Senators on Physician Assisted Suicide

The New York State Assembly passed a bill on May 2, 2025 that would legalize physician-assisted suicide. While it still requires approval from the State Senate, this development raises serious concerns, especially within the Jewish community.

In response, Rabbi Brody and Rabbi Dr. Aaron Glatt, a member of Ematai’s Rabbinic Advisory Board, submitted a letter to the Senate outlining the Jewish ethical opposition to physician-assisted suicide. Their message emphasizes that these values are not just religious principles, but speak to the dignity of all New Yorkers. The letter urges lawmakers to invest instead in comprehensive medical care, social services, and partnerships with faith-based and community organizations.

If you live in New York, now is the time to take action. Contact your State Senator and share your concerns. You can submit a letter of opposition through the Patients’ Rights Action Fund.
